Shortly after my graduation as a Photojournalist from San Francisco State University, my first assignment will be a visit to Oyotunji African Village at Sheldon, South carolina. Historically, North America’s oldest authentic African settlement.
This authentic Yoruba village was founded in the 1970s by Oba Oseijeman Adefunmi I. His followers came from New York, Chicago, and Indiana to establish the Kingdom of Oyotunji, now the oldest genuine African Village in North America, with the aim of reigniting African culture.
For a Photojournalist this could be the core of a documentary of a great story of how Yoruba religious has spread through the New World…
I cannot wait till the day I will start recording my own photographs of life in the Kingdom of Oyotunji.
