Professor of Music Zak Grafilo

Zak Grafilo, a profesor of music here at San Francisco State University, has been playing the Violin Since he was three. At that time, Grafilos mother, also a musician, encouraged him to practice music after his interest in violin was sparked when his mother took him to a music class at SFSU.

Now at 36-years-old, Grafilo is a member of the Alexander String Quartet, which directs the Morrison Chamber Music Center at the school of Music and Dance in the College of Creative Arts on campus.

The Alexander String Quartet is appreciated for its interpretations of Mozart, Beethoven and Shostakovich and has received international attention for its performances. The Quartet has toured throughout  the U.S. and Europe, as well as Argentina and the Philippines.

Grafilo has been teaching at SFSU for 10 years and enjoys his position for many reasons, primarily because of the students.
